Well, my Valley Women’s Network Makeover has come to an end. That doesn’t mean though that my work outs with Alison will!!
I can honestly say I have not looked so fit since I was in my 20’s! All the inches I lost have left me with a sleeker & more toned body….I Love to Flex my Muscles!!! LOL
I have included in my Blog, the excerpt from the PowerPoint Presentation I did for the Valley Women’s Network to thank Alison for her gift of being my personal trainer since June. I am looking forward to Alison being my work out buddy for a very long, long time. She is THE BEST!! I Feel (and Look) 10 Years Younger…..THANKS ALISON!!
“My goals with Alison were to become more flexible, to have more core & muscle strength & to loose 5 lbs. I met & exceeded my goals with her.
Alison provided me with a pedometer, a lifestyle/fitness journal and hours & hours of a well rounded fitness regime that was fun & full of encouragement. Alison has a very cozy setting for her work out studio
in her home, complete with great music & all the equipment you find in a gym.
Alison is an incredible personal trainer who is a joy to be with. She is highly motivating & is very conscientious about knowing her client & their limitations & capabilities with
regards to their fitness training. I always left Alison’s studio sweating, feeling energetic & better about myself.
I would recommend Alison to any person wanting to get back into shape or to hone their fitness goals to reach their own potential. She truly is the best work out buddy you could ask for!
Check out Alison’s website, read her newsletter and if you want proof after the slide show of the great results you can get with Alison, I dare you to come challenge me in an arm wrestle!!!”

Well, while Karen’s away on holidays this week, I’ll be writing a new workout program for her.
After two months, she’s ready! She’s going to love it (!!?) even though it will be a harder program. As I mentioned before, when you are working out, it’s important to make sure you progress your program, or you will find that you plateau. Your body adapts, so you need to step it up a little….this could be by simply increasing the intensity of your workout, or changing it up. Also, when you change it up, you have a new mental learning curve as well, so it won’t get boring!
I’ll let you know how she likes her new program….and I’m sure she will let you know her thoughts as well.

Karen is almost ready to start a new program. She says that she’s just starting to figure this one out, and now I’m telling her that she’s almost ready for a new one!
She asked me to explain why we have to change. The reason is , to make progress towards your fitness goals it’s important to change how you do things periodically. Typically at about the six to eight week mark. At this point, your body has adapted to your routine and you will notice a slow down in your progression – or, a plateau……so, we change the program to make your body re-adapt to the new routine, and therefore make progress again.
So, in about another two to three weeks, a new program for Karen!
She begged me not to make ask her to skip rope again, but it’s a great cardio workout, so I think she should continue with it…what do you think? Should Karen skip?
OK, so it feels like week one again because I missed a whole week due to a very bad cold. I really missed my work outs with Alison while I was off sick. I was really into the routine of getting to her gym and getting rid of the days stress & frustrations!
Alison was very accommodating to me the first day back & could tell I was not 100% back to my healthy (crazy) self!!
We ran my circuit twice on Wednesday with some extra encouragement from Alison & even some extra weight. She thought I didn’t notice, but my sharp eye & my muscles didn’t miss the switch in heavier weights!! Nice try Alison!!!
Having a personal trainer for the first time ever is very cool. Having someone count sit ups and keep me moving is great. Alison pushes me but always checks that I am OK. She makes the work out fun & I gotta say, I sure am feeling….and looking better!!
Five Reasons You Need Vitamin D
Vitamin D is known as the “sunshine vitamin” because the body synthesizes it with exposure to sunlight. This fat-soluble hormone has important roles in the body, it:
- Helps to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus.
- Assists in the absorption of calcium and promotes bone mineralization, which may prevent or slow the progression of osteoporosis.
- Strengthens the immune system and protects against a number of serious diseases, including rickets and osteomalacia.
- May provide protection from hypertension, psoriasis and several autoimmune diseases (including multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis).
- Plays a role in defending against cancer (studies link a deficiency of vitamin D to as many as 18 different cancers).
It isn’t easy to get enough vitamin D from your diet alone, though fortified foods (milk and cereals), eggs, salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines are all good sources. Even if you receive regular sun exposure (for most of us 20-30 minutes a day is adequate), Dr. Weil recommends taking 1,000 IU of vitamin D per day.

Well, here we are in week one of the Valley Women’s Network extreme makeover, and I’m very excited! Karen has completed her first week, and she is pumped and ready for more!
We started last Wednesday with a discussion of Karen’s goals, and what she wants to achieve, then we took some measurements, so we can better track her progress over the next few months. She’s so motivated….it’s really going to be fun training her! We even discussed the possibility of doing the Grouse Grind later this summer……………….feel free to join us on that one! I’ll keep you posted as to when that will happen.
Karen’s progress will also be followed by her business partner, Janice of Spectrum Presentations. Janice will follow Karen to her various appointments with other members of the VWN who have also donated their services, and on the second Wednesday of September, at our monthly luncheon, they will present their video of Karen’s transformation.

Karen’s Comments
Well, time for another Blog entry!
Alison has had me on my new program for 3 weeks now. I LOVE IT!!!
At first I thought there is no way I could do the circuit once, but I have already worked up to going through it twice in my hour work out. I always start on the treadmill for a 20 minute cardio….complete with hills and moving at 4.0 mph.
Then Alison gets me right into the more advanced exericises that are not only a great challenge, but
feel so good when I am finished them.
What a great coach Alison is!! I love the way she always counts down how many more presses or squats I need to do, & when she sees me straining she really encourages me to finish my set of 15. Alison has a way with words & really helps me to believe in myself that I can Do It, & I REALLY CAN!!
Alison is always checking my posture & positioning when I am lifting the weights or doing leg squats to ensure I am not straining my neck or lower back. She will use her hands on my shoulders or arms to keep them in the correct position. She has taught me the correct alignment for every exercise
& I now realise how often when I did try lifting weights in the past, that I was not getting the full benefits from my work out.
Alison still has me doing Jumping Jacks & skipping & like her newsletter says, it is a great work out (as much as I hate to admit it…I know I will be buying myself a skipping rope to keep my legs in shape!!)
Thanks Alison!!!
