Questions and AnswersQuestion: What is the importance of doing strength training along with cardio training? Answer: Muscles are metabolically more active than fat, therefore, when muscle increases so does our metabolic rate. Did you know that one pound of muscle burns 30-50 calories a day, and that one pound of fat burns only two calories per day? So, lets do the math.... if you gain ten pounds of muscle, then you can increase your daily calory burning to 300-500 calories per day!! (and that's before you do anything physical!) So, if you are burning 500 calories per day, then you can loose one pound of fat per week! Think of a one pound can of Crisco gone from your body! On the other hand, an extra 10 pounds of fat only burns 20 calories per day. Question: Do I have to do my weights in the order you put them in? Answer: You should start with the larger muscle groups of the legs to the smaller muscle groups of the upper body - torso, arms and neck. This way, you perform the more demanding exercises before you become fatigued. Question: Why can't I do my weights at a faster speed? Answer: The faster you perform an exercise, the greater the risk of injury, and, you can also slow down your strength development. Fast paced lifts can cause a high degree of stress on the muscles & connective tissues, where as a slower paced movement requires more even use of muscle force throughout the exercise.
