Herbs and Health

Fresh herbs can make our food taste good but they can also help to keep our body healthy. Each herb has its own specific characteristic and that can be translated into different vitamins and minerals within the herb. Whenever you use herbs, make sure they are certified organic – whatever goes into the soil, goes into the herb and if you are trying to heal yourself, additional herbicides and pesticides won’t make the job easy. Here are some examples of how herbs can heal your body.
Garlic – is an incredible anti-inflammatory and can be used to fight the common cold and flu. Make a broth with several heads of garlic, add some onion and parsley and sip until you feel better.
Rosemary – is incredibly high in calcium. Make a rosemary tea to sip at night to help relax you and fall to sleep easier. Other relaxing herbs could be added as well – chamomile, catnip or lavender. This will also help sore and tired muscles after a tough AB Training workout!
Thyme – is a must if you have congestion from a cold. Make a tea with honey and lemon, or inhale steam with fresh thyme sprigs floating in the water.
Mints – will sooth the stomach and freshen the breath, all at the same time. If you have had a tense day, make a cup of mint tea and relax with the flavour and aroma. All mints fall into this category – peppermint, spearmint, swiss mint – pick your favourite and enjoy.

Relay for Life

On May 25 and 26, 2007, my friend Janet Slater along with her fellow employees at Trimac Transportation called "Team Trimac", are participating in the Canadian Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life, for which they are raising funds.
The team was inspired two years ago by a co-worker, and friend, Randy, who was courageously battling cancer. This resulted in "Team Trimac" being the top fundraising team in both 2005 and 2006. The team raised over $12,000 in 2005 and over $19,000 in 2006 in pledges and donations.
Sadly, Randy lost his battle to cancer, but his spirit and determination live on in "Team Trimac's" goal to surpass the prior year's contributions.
"Team Trimac" is requesting support to assist in their fundraising efforts for the Canadian Cancer Society. You can make a contribution by going to the internet at www.cancer.ca and click on Relay for Life in Langley, and pledge "Team Trimac" or Janet Slater, Team Captain.
Cancer touches so many people in our community and Relay for Life is a great way to help fight this terrible disease. If you would like more information about Relay for Life, and any of the programs it supports, visit the Canadian Cancer website at www.cancer.ca
"Team Trimac" would like to thank you for your generosity in helping fight the battle against cancer.
