Sticking to Your Goals (New Year's Resolutions?) At this time of year lots of us make resolutions to do some new things, or to just make improvements to our lives. Some people want to quit smoking, others want to start to exercise. But most of these resolutions never happen... One of the most important things to remember when you decide to do something for your health is to make realistic goals...everything starts with baby steps. If, for instance, you want to get back in shape, then start with an easy to achieve goal such as walking two or three times a week, and after a while, as you get into a routine then you can look at adding another day, or adding a resistance routine to build muscle strength. One way to get started for some people is to hire a personal trainer. Personal trainers help you set realistic goals and monitor your progress as you go. They also provide accountability and motivation. Another way to keep with your new exercise program is to use the buddy system....see if a friend will join you for your walks...this also provides accountability for you to keep it up. The benefits you'll get from exercising, like having more energy, feeling good about yourself, and ultimately looking better, and feeling stronger will then be your motivation!
